42: Hibla.com: The Boxettes led by Bellatrix Live at Charlie Wrights, London Jazz Festival: Bellatrix, Yvette, Alusha, Neo, and Harriet. http://www.allfromthemouth.com/bellatrix
The Boxettes led by phenomenally talented female beatboxer, Bellatrix, the headlining all-female a capella vocal group explore extended vocal techniques hitched to jazz, hip-hop and soul sensibilities, with extraordinary results.
The Boxettes are a female vocal quintet who experiment with extended vocal techniques beyond what is expected of the human, let alone the female voice. Each from a variety of musical backgrounds and styles, the Boxettes were brought together in 2007 at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama (one of the top music colleges in Europe) where they all study jazz. This melting pot of five such individual and contrasting voices has formed an exquisite new sound, both versatile and original.
The Boxettes show is an exciting concoction of soulful grooves and dirty beats laced with jazz and maybe even a classical intention. Theyll make you wanna get down to their groove, theyll touch you with delicate, evocative melodies and theyll make you listen hard whilst their intense and advanced study allows them to explore rhythm and harmony in depth and with freedom. Boxette Bellatrx has recently been crowned the female WORLD CHAMPION... so there!
The South London Press recently described Alyusha as having "exquisite vocals" after a fantastic gig at the Queen Elizabeth Hall. She studies Jazz and Classical Voice at the Guildhall School of Music.
She sings in the all female vocal percussion group called The Boxettes, who have performed at Ministry of Sound, The Roundhouse, and in France to name a couple.
Alyusha also sings with Shlomo and the Vocal Orchestra who performed at Glastonbury, WOMAD, Greenbelt & Latitude over the summer, they are also often seen performing at the south bank venues.
She has recently worked with Achilles, which is an up and coming new band and wrote the above song with them.
Her own songwriting is on standby for a bit while she heavily involves her self with her studies and the above bands she sing with... www.myspace.com/alyusha

48: Hibla.com: Mabon live at Passing Clouds 11th February 2010 Welch Rarebit or cheese on toast
Jamie Smith (acordion), Derek Smith (guitars), Iolo Whelan (drums), Oli Wilson-Dickson (violin), Matt Downer (bass guitar), Calum Stewart (flute, pipes)

Jamie Smiths marriage of original, beautifully crafted tunes with influences from across the whole spectrum of celtic and european musical expressions, has ensured that the growing army of MABON fans - audiences and promoters alike - have been heralding the band as the antidote to a musical vacuum currently deemed to be aflicting the celtic music genre.

Throughout Britain, Europe and further afield, the band has been blitzing audiences: grand outdoor spectaculars in France, folk festivals in the UK, delirious allcomers in Mexico, forest parks in Italy, stadiums in Australia and castles in Poland.
A dynamic, groove laden and connecting live show has been honed with patience and graft, enabling audiences to embrace the music and enjoy the passion, brilliance and verve the band bring to a stage. MABON, a six-piece band of exemplary musicians, packed with attitude and joy, are determined to grab possession of audiences and take them to a musical party they are not likely to forget. Whether seated or standing, concerts never fail to ignite audiences, with opportunities to join in, dance, or just watch in wonderment as the music unfurls before them.

Celtic / Folk Rock / Roots Music

Mabons music is well described as Original, Interceltic, World Music. Composed by frontman Jamie Smith, and brought to life by six highly accomplished musicians, it draws inspiration directly from the traditional folk music of the Celtic countries. This is not Welsh music, nor Scottish or Irish; this is Interceltic music, a true exploration of forms and styles found in Celtic music and their forging into something bold and new.

Mabon: the Celtic festival of the autumn equinox. Mabon: a band that explores the way the merry love to fiddle and the merry love to dance.

JAZZ ON THE ROAD - Afro Jazz special @ The Empowering Church, United Vibrations, Awalé, Dancing from Kola and Maki,

Saturday 20th of February, We are proud to invite two of the London's best upcoming Afro Jazz influenced band; United Vibrations and Awalé!

United Vibrations

UV have built up their following by regularly performing on the streets of London, gaining a reputation for turning pavements into parties. This raw street energy is flowing through their music. To those used to the existing systems of genre and style classification in use today, you are going to have to view this band differently. Their music is 12tone. A multi-synthesis of Rock, Afro Beat, Punk, Funk, Hip-Hop, Drum 'n' Bass, Jazz and much much more, UV play a unique dance music that draws on the rhythms of the world to form a highly infectious sound that knows no boundaries. Their debut single RA! is out now from 12tone C.I.C.

Awalé

Awalé is a London based musical project with members from Tunisia, France, Cuba and England. It has been described as Afro Gypsy Funk and was put together by Thibaut Remy from Montpellier, France who has resided in London for the past seven years. Being an avid listener and having collaborated with a wide range of world music artists, he was inspired to create a genre reflecting his experiences of multicultural London and his love of jazz, afro-beat, funk and gypsy music. The music of Awalé draws on these influences without being traditional, reflecting an openness to different cultures.

LIVE! CHAVO (Infectious Gypsy folk)
A long time ago, in an overly populated street in the heart of London, Chavo was born. But their music carries the sounds from lands far further a field.
They play dance music, European folk dance, with blinding tempos and

driving rhythms. Their music tips cap toward the sounds of the Romani musicians of the Balkans, the wedding tunes of the Klezmorim and the southern Italian spider bite dances.
Chavos repertoire is a fine collection of old folk songs from throughout Europe that are woven together with their own music and their love and

hate relationship with London¹s streets. Sung in both English and Romani

This was the long awaited first train. It was the chance to see the ghost trains from the inside: to be one of the ghosts.
Live Jazz music welcomes the first passengers to Dalston Junction. I think the line was opened earlier by Boris Johnson. But was it really opened? Hackneys Mayor, Jules Pipe, as the rest of us, is reported to having been locked out. Why was Boris afraid?
I arrived to hear Jazz on the Underground. Apt, as there are so many venues that have the best of world jazz near to the new stations
