90: Hibla.com: Garance Louis and Her band "The Mitochondrie"

Published on 26 Dec 2011

Garance Louis and Her band "The Mitochondrie" live at Passing Clouds 19th November 2011
"I don't care about this man I Know......"
Featuring: Garance Louis, Brooke Sharkey, Ewan Bleach, Alastair Caplin,
Garance is a song writer and accordionist from rural southern France.
Her band "The Mitochondrie" are a rag tag ensemble of gifted rogues she acquired from the street corners of London. Together they make a very beautiful, quirky and rickety musical family. They mix destroyed dynamics and unexpected changes with traditional folkloric styles...You could call it a kind of "dirty tango, rock n roll, post-musette, tramp jazz, progressive gypsy..." Or give up on generic descriptions and just experience the band and their music!

Edit video
To coincide with the opening of the exhibition, GALERIE8 will play host to a performance by the artist, in collaboration with electo-acoustic visionary Lars Korb, and Japanese contemporary sound-designer Ayumi Sawa.

The trio of highly experimental players will perform from behind a fabric veil, their forms silhouetted by a stop-motion animation film, and music emanating from within the curtained stage. The group utilise a vast range of instruments - from Tibetan bowls and a Kalimba (or thumb piano), to the handmade 'box-guitar' and 'water phone' - which are then incorporated into electronic music techniques.

This intriguing combination of apparatus creates an experimental style of performative contemporary music as avant-garde methods attempt to explore sound's ability to affect the body and to 'paint with music'.

About the artists
JAREK PIOTROWSKI was born in Bialystok, Poland in 1973 and currently lives and works in Munich. Recent exhibitions include BRP Paper, Black Rat Press, London, 2011, Bimbo Box 5, Munich, 2011, Alice Dans les Tenebres, Galerie Popy Arvani, Paris, 2010 and Lehner/Piotrowski, Galerie Andreas Höhne, Munich, 2010.
LARS KORB is a Munich based electronic musician focusing on sound design and multimedia projects including film and documentary soundtracks. Recent projects include a collaboration with highly acclaimed Japanese turntablist DJ Krush on the soundtrack for First Squad. He has also performed at music festivals with the electropop band Minikamoo
AYUMI SAWA is a Japanese musician and sound designer. Her musical practice often focuses on the layering motion picture, dialogue, and image with analogue and digital sound production techniques to create a symbiotic tapestry of picture and sound. Sawa participated in one half of experimental, Tokyo based electronica duo CONFEDERADOS.

97:©Hibla.com: Orquestra Voadora at Passing Clouds 8th April 2012

Published on 12 Apr 2012
e marching street carnival in Rio de Janeiro in Passing Clouds

http://www.orquestravoadora.com.br
Union of musicians who met playing in various blocks of the marching street carnival in Rio de Janeiro in 2008 and prior years, the ORCHESTRA FLYING appears determined to continue making sound throughout the year, without stopping after the Carnival, then touching other varieties of music styles.
The first pillar of this work is to touch only the traditional marches. More than this. The flights, dubbed as are the performances by the musicians of the Orchestra, tours are true for the most unusual aspects of music. Weaving the personal taste of each member, the differences that so heterogeneous group of musicians is always taken into consideration and democracy is part of the musical selection.
Playing from classic sambas devoted wobbly Brazilian rock and roll, movie soundtracks and designs, and classic grooves vanguardísticos, the "infinite repertoire" seems to be the fate of FLYING ORCHESTRA, which is formed by Daniel Paiva, Sergio Genovencio, James Robinson and Vincent Quintela (Trumpets), Carlos Molina, Julian B. Pires, Leonardo and Marcio Campos Sobrosa (Trombone), Andrew Ramos (Baritone Sax), Tim Malik (Tuba); Fioroti Andrew, Hugo Prazeres, Lula Mattos, Marcelo Azevedo and Pedro Araújo (percussion).
Attention crew, fasten your seat belts because we're off!
Special thanks: Maja Nemego, André Fioroti, André Ramos, Carlos Molina, Daniel Paiva, Hugo Prazeres, Juliano Pires, Leonardo Campos, Lula Mattos, Marcelo Azevedo, Márcio Sobrosa, Pedro Araujo, Sérgio Genovéncio, Tiago Rodrigues, Tim Malik, Vicente Quintella, Passing Clouds, Planetman, Joseph O'Kelly
In the orchestra plays a percussion set dubbed Robocop - something like a mini-battery for playing standing, with box, dish and other trinkets. Self-taught drummer since 16 years, decided to expand their musical experiences with percussion instruments. He has played in various projects, like the band The Baque wheels, crying and samba, MPB, Indian music, theater and carnival as Brejeiro Boi and Tolo. Cites as musical influences rock, reggae, ska, jazz, african-beat, pop, brass bands like the Young Blood Brass Band, among others, and their motto is: "Sound and Love"
