2013 10 31 The party not to be missed: fancy-dress, wild music,
On Kingsland Road don't shield your eyes The Halloween march 31st October, Samhain in the witch calendar. Two years up the road, old and Roman. This year down. Its down the road this year too The begin is in the creation: Strangeworks and Passing Clouds. The starts were Shoreditch and Abney Park Cemetery, Londons first arboretum, Stoke Newington, gathering outside the gates. The invisible and the partially materialized join. There are splurges of ectoplasm all over the place. They re-gather at Gillette Sq. The Moon worshipers are gathered. And then to Passing Clouds to party, and to Vampire images prevail. StrangeWorks huge pipits lead the marches. StopFrame from earlier years.

The London vintage swing scene has never been so alive and Cakewalk Café henchman EWAN BLEACH is its undisputed ringleader. Performing here as his alter-ego Spewan Leech, he'll be bringing together a veritable cauldron of virtuoso jazz cats to raise the roof with a storm of raucous swing straight from the writhing, dirty dance halls of East London!

Join Cloud Factory Adventures at Passing Clouds for a deathly dive into the East End Underworld as we howl at the moon and celebrate the thin feral veil between life and death!
Our ghoulish East End Pagan Monster Mash-Up begins outside ABNEY PARK CEMETERY with a black and white MARCH OF THE DEAD!
Led by the Pearly Horned God of the Underground straddling the Samhain Sound System, the Witches of Hackney Wick stirring cauldrons of jellied eels, Pat Butchers of Fleet Street and the Kray Brothers Grimm terrorising Frightened Fawnicators, we'll be strutting through the streets of Hackney and brandishing our torches to the Hadean Gates of Passing Clouds.
Having bribed the Ferryman to let us pass through to the Other World, we'll be feasting and frolicking with the finest musical purveyors of fright-night festivities to keep you stomping and screaming until the light of the New Dawn!

Planetman: "
brilliant!! big thank you to all you lovely people who came and party hard with us last night at our Little Blue Ball @ Passing Clouds!! big up to my Internationalz for playing to the highest!! "
Planetman & The Internationalz -- reggae, ska, afrobeat and d&b experience!

" Planetman, whose band The Internationalz blend highlife guitars and reggae with earnest folk and brightly soulful vocals. The sounds are varied yet simply catchy; the spirit is infectiously upbeat." Metro.

Little Blue Ball founder and host, Planetman and his band The Internationalz come with a message to express and a mission to embark upon. To promote love & unity amongst all, while blending elements of Reggae, Afrofunk, Rock and D&B into their own distinctive style.
East-London's cult band and members of the Passing Clouds Collective, they formed in summer 2001 and have played at the country's biggest festivals including Glastonbury Festival, Notting Hill Carnival, Big Chill, Secret Garden Party, Sunrise Festival, to name a few. They also performed internationally in Portugal, France, Hungary, Holland, Thailand, Tanzania, Scotland and Ireland.

"Planetman & The Internationalz prove conclusively that pure groove still has a place in the hearts and souls of man. Planetman is a singer consumed with the passion of his art. He and his band live and breathe for live performance, and their communal spirit echoes throughout their songs -- all of which call out in perfect harmony for equality, peace, love and understanding. This is a good-time band who will have any festival crowd up on its feet, shoes kicked off and toes dancing through the fresh green grass."

ABOUT THE CAKEWALK CAFE

A night of vintage jazz upstairs at Passing Clouds every Wednesday.

The Cakewalk Café is a step through life's looking glass into the gin-soaked dancehalls of the prohibition age. From hot jazz to swing, ragtime to music hall, it's all here, jumbled up like an old-time jamboree.

Slick back your hair, tug your weskit and don't forget that the floor is for dancing over.

The superb Ewan Bleach will usually be there at the piano to accompany singers and as long as it's a jazz or blues song you are very welcome to take the mic.

KORA-SITAR instrumental project with the fantastic virtuoso kora player Jally Kebba Susso and Shama Rahman on the sitar. This is the first hearing of their entrancing new material and absolutely not to be missed!

In West Africa, a griot combines the roles of musician, storyteller, historian, archivist, diplomat and flatterer. You can only be born a griot, never became one. Jally Kebba Susso comes from a very long line of Manding griots from The Gambia. He started playing the kora, the emblematic instrument of the griots at the age of seven, learning it's delicate flowing intricacies from his father and older brothers. By the age of 13, Susso was touring Europe with a number of Gambian stars including Baatou Askan Wi, Maslabii and his sister Sambou Susso's group. Over recent years Susso has been experimenting with blends of traditional griot music mixing hip hop, jazz, blues and now funk. He won the best Kora Player accolade at a major youth conference in Gambia in 2001. Since relocating to the UK, Susso has performed at the Momo's, Africa Centre, ICA, Passing Clouds and many UK festivals.

Shama Rahman, http://www.facebook.com/ShamaRahmanMusic , Musician, Actress and Scientist (PhD in neuroscience of musical creativity), Shama Rahman was born in UAE to Bangladeshi parents and living the life of a scientist, neurophilosopher and actor, her songs don't fail to deliver on originality, startling insightfulness and an over-riding sense of playfulness. Under the tuition lineage of Pt Ravi Shankar, she sings over her sitar at times passionately soaring and powerful, at others, mischievously percussive and quietly thoughtful but always beautiful as she tells it like it is with observations on life, love and time hidden in fables, illuminated in parables and good old fashioned clap-alongs.

We are super excited to invite you to our official ALBUM LAUNCH at Passing Clouds on Thursday Jan 30th!

"Love it all!"-Gilles Peterson

"Fable: Time" is an ambitious piece, that rare combination of unconventional creativity and the focus to bring it into a successful fruition" -FredPerry Subculture

"...an album unlike any that you're likely to have ever heard before."-7bitArcade
The album features musicians from Bengal, Britain and around the world, recorded in support from Gabriel Prokofiev's Non-Classical studios.

'Bolte Paro Ki (Can you Tell Me Why?)'-2013 Best bits on BBC Asian Network:
Original Song-
The Shama Rahman Band are masters of what they dub "Urban Folk" - mixing music from English, Bengali, Bulgarian and West African traditions, jazz to dubstep, punk to folk, spoken word to bosa nova, Singer/Sitarist/Composer Shama weaves stories that start life as poems and take flight as songs. This performance is to celebrate their debut album Fable:Time, an album already garnering praise from the likes of Gilles Peterson. The sitar is played in the context of storytelling, musically arranged to sit within layered harmonies and complex grooves of a 4-piece band. Expect a performance of challenging musical beauty.

This band has debuted to acclaim at The Alchemy Festival, Southbank and is fresh off a summer festival circuit that included the Barbican, Secret Garden Party, Wilderness, Green Man and The Rollright Fayre:
"..impressively inventive debut of Shama Rahman's band performing quirky, intelligent tunes",-theartsdesk

Musician, Actress and Scientist (PhD in neuroscience of musical creativity), Shama Rahman was born in UAE to Bangladeshi parents and living the life of a scientist, neurophilosopher and actor, her songs dont fail to deliver on originality, startling insightfulness and an over-riding sense of playfulness.
