17: Hibla.com: Elliott Sharp live at Charlie Wright's London - Tectonics Abstraction Distraction (part) SUN Oct 19th, 2008 @ 21:30 - Elliot Sharp (New York) A real innovator, sax strangler and guitar mauler Elliott Sharp has been raising New York avant garde eyebrows since the seventies. Hes collaborated with the grand Pooh-Bah of the downtown scene, John Zorn, and shared an occasional basket of cheesy fries with fellow guitar terrorist Derek Bailey. Sharp also collaborates regularly with visual artists Christian Marclay and Pierre Huyghe. Combining the naked freedom of jazz improvisation and the alien crunch of digital mechanisms, his visionary music draws upon chaos theory and fractals while reinventing a variety of traditional instruments: electric guitars, synthesizers, saxophones and clarinets, leading to his use of computers and samplers to design new sounds and virtual instruments. www.elliottsharp.com/  www.myspace.com/CHARLIEWRIGHTS  © 2008 Hibla.com Thanks to T Wo Music Patsy Craig & Zhenya Strigalev, and John Added: Sat 27 Dec 2008 05:47:54 PST

19: Hibla: New Year 2009 in Dalston Hackney New Years Eve 2008 Afro Dub Funk Experience at Passing Clouds with SOOTHSAYERS YAABA FUNK DJ KOICHI SAKAI http://www.myspace.com/soothsayers  http://www.myspace.com/yaabafunk  SOOTHSAYERS Soothsayers are a London-based collective that reach far beyond the restrictive clichés of World Music. Blending the pulsating rhythms of Afrobeat with the sonic adventurousness of dub reggae and urban jazz, Soothsayers shook up the jaded music scene with their acclaimed debut album, Lost City. They followed this with Tangled Roots, an exceptional release that defies standard classifications: the West African root that drove Fela Kutis rebellion is filtered through the deeply seductive dub experimentation of Lee Perry, King Tubby and Augustus Pablo, while funk, hip hop and other contemporary elements yield a complex sound firmly lodged in Londons broader musical experience. Soothsayers meet The Red Earth Collective , the forthcoming album is in the final stages of completion. Heres a chance to check out some of the early versions of the tracks . As usual the music draws on the genres of Afrobeat, dub, funk in Soothsayers inimitable style. YAABA FUNK From the streets of South London comes this eleven-piece band that have been honing their sound over the last two years, whilst rocking (notoriously hard to please..) audiences all over London. Yaaba Funk, a product of Brixton, play a mix of classic 70s Ghanaian Hi-Life and hard-hitting funk, cut with a strong dose of Afro-broken-beat and more than a hint of Dub. Band members have studied African, Brazilian and Cuban music, and it shows in their strongly rhythmic sound. Two infectiously energised vocalists, a horn section and the tightest rhythm section this side of Accra are underpinned by analogue bass and African guitar, creating a 21st century urban Afro sound, that is at home on festival stages and club venues. Their live shows are renowned for raw energy, great musicianship and a visually arresting style. Yaaba Funk is a truly exhilarating experience, which is guaranteed to leave exhausted audiences in their wake. DJ KOICHI SAKAI Resident of Passing Clouds spins the finest selections of Afrobeat, Afro funk, Reggae, Dancehall and more. ROOTS and CULTURE! Added: Fri 02 Jan 2009 06:15:55 PST

There are stills from the video at : www.hibla.com/090212ChrisDaddyDave/

In this track there  are two songs one jazz and one hip hop. The main one is " A Love Supreme" by John Coltrane and another is "Somethin that mean somethin" by Pharcyde.

CHRIS DAVE : defies classification with his articulated beats, intrinsic rhythms and innovative inflections that have gained him recognition as one of the most influential and prototypical drummers in the industry today. With over 15 years of influential playing Chris has been around the world and back including world tours with Janet Jackson, Mint Condition and Erykah Badu as well as recording and performing with iconic artists such as: Kenny Garrett, Terrence Blanchard, Wynton Marsalis, Pat Metheny, Meshell N'Degeocello, Robert Glasper, Nicolas Payton, Mos Def, Erykah Badu, Talib Kweli, Jill Scott, A Tribe Called Quest, Dolly Parton, Dianne Reeves, and Yolanda Adams, just to name a few. One of the many projects Chris Daddy Dave is involved with is a group called The Foundation. Having just released their debut album, The Foundation is a tremendous live hip-hop band consisting of "my family and friends from H-Town." They receive over 2.5 million hits monthly on OkayPlayer.com. Naturally, the purpose and motivation behind it is their uncanny love for hip-hop and true "freedom of expression." The project just released their self-titled debut on iTunes featuring special guests: Bilal, Stokely (Mint Condition), Meshell N'degeocello, PZ, Sa Ra, Tanya Morgan, Strangefruit Project, and Soulfruit. In June 2008, Chris was invited to serve as musical director for Mos Def and his big band in a performance at Carnegie Hall produced by Jill Newman Productions. It's all showcases the range of Dave's dynamic collaborations in hip-hop, R&B, jazz and neo-soul. FOLEY: Dubbed The funkiest cat Ive heard in a long time by George Clinton, Foley, played bass guitar for Miles Davis from 1987 until 1991. Foley sometimes fulfils the role of a lead guitarist, with his famous Blue Marble "Lead Bass." He tunes his instrument one octave higher than normal using a combination of effects pedals and his own unique phrasing to achieve a sound more closely associated with that of a "lead" guitar. During his time at Motown, Foley released the critically-acclaimed "7 Years Ago....Directions In Smart-Alec Music" in 1993. The album featured the AIDS-related song 'If It's Positive'. which is widely regarded as the first in a long line of AIDS awareness songs during the early 90's. His website www.SMARTALECMUSIC.com    has very insightful interviews with other legendary musicians & actors. Often imitated, Foley's Inner-views have been praised by many entertainment journalists. His Article "THE BIG TRUTH" continues to inspire young musicians & performers about the ills of the Music business regarding Money, Technology & Music for profit. Foley has shared the stage with an array of diverse artists ranging from Santana, Herbie Hancock, Prince, Patrice Rushen, Al Jarreau, Alice in Chains, Foreigner, Bootsy Collins, Fishbone, Arrested Development, Macy Gray, Mint Condition, Monica, Davina, Larry Dunn, Lenny White, Marcus Miller, Res, Khaleel, Funk Brother Jack Ashford, and Primus. Jonathan Kreisberg (guitar) (Joe Henderson, Michael Brecker, Lee Konitz) Will Vinson (saxophone) (Chris Potter, Mike Stern, Mingus Big Band, Aaron Parks) Danton Boller (bass) (Roy Hargrove, Mulgrew Miller, Robert Glasper) PRODUCED BY T WO MUSIC, CHARLIE WRIGHTS INTERNATIONAL Photographed in Stop motion Joseph O'Kelly Hibla.com Ari Hoenig has a reputation for being a flexible, broad-minded jazz drummer who is open to a variety of musical situations -- some very straight-ahead and accessible, some of them more cerebral and abstract. Along the way, Hoenig has crossed paths with improvisers ranging from soul-jazz organist/pianist Shirley Scott to saxman Joe Lovano to guitarist Mike Stern. Hoenig has played with the very straight-ahead and traditional Bucky Pizzarelli, but he has also been employed by the left-of-center Dave Liebman (who is no stranger to jazz's avant-garde). Hoenig has been equally skillful in a bandleader/composer role as well as accompanist/sideman. For the past 6 years, Ari has been a member of the Kenny Werner trio and Jean-Michel Pilc trio. He has shared the bandstand with the likes of Gerry Mulligan, Pat Metheny, Dave Holland and Wynton Marsalis. Today, Ari can also be found playing in the bands of any number of musicians, including Pat Martino, Joshua Redman, Wayne Krantz, Richard Bona, Chris Potter, Kurt Rosenwinkel, The Jazz Mandolin Project and Mike Stern. www.arihoenig.com  PRESS QUOTES: "Pliability is the outfits calling card-any one of the drummers elaborate constructions has the capability of morphing east or west. The specifics of the interplay are just as intriguing as the music's larger personality. A great example of an utterly vital NYC jazz band." ---VILLAGE VOICE "A remarkable player with an uncommon penchant for melodicism on the kit, Hoenig has already put out two amazing solo drum recordings in which he plays the heads to familiar jazz standards by playing strictly skins, shells and cymbals with nothing more than sticks, brushes, mallets, hands and elbows.." ---Bill Milkowski JAZZ TIMES "Expansive technique, propulsive time and deep musicality" "his style is characterized by a crisp attack and quick attentive reflexes. Ari Hoenig approaches jazz drumming with manic glee, and yet hes exacting with texture and pulse, an irrepressibly kinetic drummer ---Nate Chinen, NEW YORK TIMES "Ari Hoenig likes to get physical. He rubs saliva on his drums, jabs his elbows into them and pokes them like a mad genie. His albums (Time Travels, The Life of a Day) show a drummer in love with his instrument's sound, a man who has an ingenious ability to make music with anything he touches" ---PHILADELPHIA WEEKLY Added: Wed 18 Mar 2009 03:26:21 PDT

26: Hibla.com: Will Vinson / Kurt Rosenwinkel Group Live @ ZIGFRID VON UNDERBELLY London Hibla.com: Will Vinson / Kurt Rosenwinkel Group T WO Music Presents Live @ ZIGFRID VON UNDERBELLY, Hoxton Square, London, WEDNESDAY 29th April 2009 Will Vinson- (saxophone), Kurt Rosenwinkel (guitar), Mike Janisch - (bass), Paul Wiltgen (drums) © Hibla.com 2009 Joseph OKelly INFORMATION about the event: Will Vinson/Kurt Rosenwinkel Group will be playing their well known and new originals PLUS we will be celebrating an official launch of our new venue, Zigfrid Von Underbelly. Zigfrid has a great PA, amazing acoustics, really good lighting that adds to the intimate atmosphere PLUS you can see the stage from everywhere. We tried it out last month with Ari Hoenigs band. The audience was crazy (in a good way) very often. Check out the clip from that gig http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ec4WbxUY0_E  Preview about Will Vinson/ Kurt Rosenwinkel Group from TIME OUT: NYC-based guitarist Rosenwinkel is widely regarded as one of the instrument's most important and gifted players today. While his Metheny-ish touch is smoothly melodic, he's capable of astonishingly angular flights and incendiary, skronking solos. Altoist Vinson is equally acclaimed and possesses a similarly lethal approach to writing and soloing. These two nights are their only UK appearances, and a very rare chance indeed to hear them outside of their native Downtown territory. Preview about Will Vinson/ Kurt Rosenwinkel Group from GUARDIAN: If you can't tell a book by the cover, you can't tell a saxophone player by what sounds at first like their primary influence either. Will Vinson, the technically adroit alto and soprano saxophonist who went to work in New York, is certainly capable of the kind of sharply accented, minimally lyrical, high-pressure sax virtuosity heard countless times over the years in the foaming wake of John Coltrane. Vinson has a sophisticated interest in the long, twisting, dynamically reserved melody lines of both the pre-Coltrane Cool School era and the linear intricacies of Steve Coleman, Greg Osby and Chris Potter. For these two gigs he's joined by versatile guitarist Kurt Rosenwinkel (pictured), who can get started from deceptively reticent, Frisell-like beginnings - but if his solos might begin with sleepwalking chords, they soon find their way to flying double-time runs full of fresh phrasing, intriguingly veering between elaborate caution and deep-breath leaps across abysses. He played both guitar and bass for a period of time, and after hearing the infamous Jaco Pastorius in 1979 decides to focus strictly on the bass, and not long after starts finding the unique voice he becomes very well known for. Being a self taught musician, he immediately started developing his own style of playing, and by the early 80's had refined his signature right hand approach. It began by using the thumb, index, and middle finger instead of the traditional two finger approach, and that move gave birth to the four finger technique which is used as a secondary technique by many of the top players in the world. In addition to that, he also enhanced this technique by using a pedal steel guitar pick on his thumb and index finger, and carved out a unique and distinctive sound on the instrument. 42: Hibla.com: The Boxettes led by Bellatrix Live at Charlie Wrights, London Jazz Festival: Bellatrix, Yvette, Alusha, Neo, and Harriet. http://www.allfromthemouth.com/bellatrix
The Boxettes led by phenomenally talented female beatboxer, Bellatrix, the headlining all-female a capella vocal group explore extended vocal techniques hitched to jazz, hip-hop and soul sensibilities, with extraordinary results.
The Boxettes are a female vocal quintet who experiment with extended vocal techniques beyond what is expected of the human, let alone the female voice. Each from a variety of musical backgrounds and styles, the Boxettes were brought together in 2007 at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama (one of the top music colleges in Europe) where they all study jazz. This melting pot of five such individual and contrasting voices has formed an exquisite new sound, both versatile and original.
The Boxettes show is an exciting concoction of soulful grooves and dirty beats laced with jazz and maybe even a classical intention. Theyll make you wanna get down to their groove, theyll touch you with delicate, evocative melodies and theyll make you listen hard whilst their intense and advanced study allows them to explore rhythm and harmony in depth and with freedom. Boxette Bellatrx has recently been crowned the female WORLD CHAMPION... so there!
The South London Press recently described Alyusha as having "exquisite vocals" after a fantastic gig at the Queen Elizabeth Hall. She studies Jazz and Classical Voice at the Guildhall School of Music.
She sings in the all female vocal percussion group called The Boxettes, who have performed at Ministry of Sound, The Roundhouse, and in France to name a couple.
Alyusha also sings with Shlomo and the Vocal Orchestra who performed at Glastonbury, WOMAD, Greenbelt & Latitude over the summer, they are also often seen performing at the south bank venues.
She has recently worked with Achilles, which is an up and coming new band and wrote the above song with them.
Her own songwriting is on standby for a bit while she heavily involves her self with her studies and the above bands she sing with... www.myspace.com/alyusha
